It’s Avengers weekend!!!  Yep, the potentially biggest box office opening weekend ever starts at midnight tonight.  Are you going to assemble?

ITEM: Also this weekend is Free Comic Book Day!  Always situated on the first Saturday of May and around the Marvel movie release, retailers around the country give away specially selected free comics and usually have some other manner of craziness going on.  And as Comicazi is in the country, we’ll be participating in FCBD!!  Come on down for your selected free books – while they last, natch!
And while you’re at it, be sure to stop in that very same day – May 5! – for Muppet Trivia at 8pm!!  Statler and Waldorf want you there.  So do we!!!

ITEM: Next Tuesday, the 8th brings you a meeting of the gang of the Comicazi Book Club!!  Every other Tuesday evening at 7:30 you’re more than welcome to come by and discuss the graphic novels that the group is reading.  This time out, it is Kevin Smith’s Green Arrow.  Future meetings will be about My Friend Dahmer, Gotham Central, and American Vampire.

ITEM: So the Boston Comic Con is over and it was a huge success!!  Comicazi was well represented by Bob, Dave, and myself and we killed it this weekend!  Many many thanks to all of you who dropped by our sweet location and said hey and grabbed some stuff and we look forward to seeing you new folks soon, too

ITEM: In a mere 2 days, Boston Comic Con descends upon us!  And yes, Comicazi shall be represented!  When you enter the pop culture wonderland, be sure to keep an eye out for Bob, Dave, and myself and swing by and say hey. Or bring us something yummy.  Comic Conning is thirsty work!!  See you then!!

ITEM: While we’re on the subject of the Comic Con, I have a free ticket to give to a lucky individual.  Yes, we’ve been giving passes away to the Con on our Facebook page all week and here’s another chance for you!!  First, let me illustrate the rules to win.  The winning answer has to be emailed to me by 7pm today.  And you have until 8pm tomorrow evening to come down to the shop and pick up your pass.

So I’d like to start this week’s edition off with a big ole THANK YOU!!  Why, do you ask?  Well, because democracy in action worked and Comicazi took top honors for Best Comic Shop in this year’s Boston Phoenix Best Of Boston poll.
All of us here at the shop really appreciate those of you that voted for us and that spread the word about the store and just support us.  It’s greatly appreciated and we can’t thank you enough!  We can only try to do better and that’s what we’re going to do!!  Many thanks!!

ITEM: As I mentioned last week, the new Previews catalog is out.  This is for product shipping in June.  Yes, we order comics and such two months ahead of time.
In order to better serve you, we’ve been handing you your sub sheet along with your comics as you come in.  If you could check the list to see if it’s what you want, that’d be swell, by Crom!  Also let us know of any new titles you’d want added to your pull list.
This also means that the comics/products we’ve ordered for you, you need to pick up if it’s on your list.  Putting it back on the shelf while it’s still on your list/been ordered for you two months ago only hurts us.
Now back to that Previews!!  I’m going to list some upcoming titles from the new Previews catalog that I think are pretty cool and/or are likely to be big deals.  If you could peruse the list and let me know which titles you would want added to your pull list, I’d raise a flagon of the finest mead in your name!  Let’s do this!!

I’m not going to say anything about global warming and why it’s 80 degrees in mid-March.  And how this phenomena is coinciding with events in the current Amazing Spider-Man storyline.  You can find it all out for yourself by picking up Spidey comics.  Or stepping outside.
Related to the above and last week’s item, I’m going to let you know that starting in next week’s newsletter, I’m going to mention the new titles and first issues and annuals and such that I think you all should be made aware.  This will help us manage what to order for you and make sure that you don’t miss out on any books you want.  New Previews catalog next week effendi!!

ITEM: We recently picked up a decent stack of mini comics and small indy books.  They’re all bagged and boarded and await your perusal in the corner of the shop by the back issues.  And where the Star Trek display used to be.

ITEM: And that last sentence leads me to this nugget of info!  Displays in the shop have started being moved around and streamlined.  You may have noticed the board game section expand and the previously mentioned Star Trek figures consolidate along the back wall with the other $10 figures.  There are more aesthetic changes on the way so keep your eyes peeled as we continue to strive to serve you better!

ITEM: Along those streamlines I brought up, there are also some tweaks we’d like for you subscribers and your pull lists.  It would be a great help if you can let us know as specifically as possible what you would like set aside for you.  As I look at the latest order catalog I see that annuals for titles are coming.  These tend to be more expensive books and not everyone wants them.  I can’t order the same numbers for an annual that i would for the regular book and have a ton sitting unsold.
Also, there are families of titles like Avengers, Batman, Green Lantern, and X-Men to name a few.  As a matter of fact, a brand new Avengers title arrived yesterday.  I ordered it speculatively thinking that most Avengers readers would go for it.  It’s done OK but I can’t continue doing that.
So I entreat you to please let us know everything you want set aside.  There’s always an order catalog in the office and we’re glad to take the time to go over everything so that you’re happy and we’re happy.  Because, let’s face it, we all love comics!
